1.03 Welcome to YOUR Podcast!
Hello, and welcome to day one of the intermediate English listening training course. And in this course you will learn a lot in 20 days, and for every lesson each day you get the daily private podcast. So this is my private podcast for this class, and in the podcast I will talk a little bit about the grammar, I will give some study tips, I will give bonus information, and I will talk just in general to help you learn English.
Now, in this course there are many activities you can do. First, you should do the listening quiz for each conversation, then the grammar quiz to work on broken English, then the pronunciation challenge, then the response activity called good answer, and then finally you can do the real world English. Also, at the end of each unit you will have a speaking challenge yourself.
So for homework, you can submit your homework to me. You could submit audio, and then I or somebody on my team will give you a response, so we will make a video just for you. So in this course actually you should get six videos.
So today you actually have an early assignment, and that is to introduce yourself. So I will provide a link and you can leave a message and introduce yourself. Now when you leave the message, make sure you put your email so we can email you of the video response to your message, and we can send you a personal audio response.
Now, this course is a lot like training at a gym, or training for a job, or maybe training to be a musician, or maybe training to be an actor or actress, and that we do training, we don't do studying. So in every activity you will have listening. There will be some listening component in every activity. Also, you will have some simple task you need to do.
Now, there are over 100 lessons in the course, so if you do one conversation per day, you can finish all 20, a whole 100 plus lessons in 20 days. And usually you should study about 15 to 30 minutes a day. It does not take long to do the lessons, and you can break them up. For example, you can maybe do a couple activities and that will take 2 minutes, I'm sorry, 10 minutes, then you can wait and later in the day do some more activities for another 10–15 minutes. So you can study in small chunks, in small bursts, and this often is the best way to learn. But again, every time you study, you need to listen.
Now, for some activities, especially Activity one, the listening quiz, you can do the listening quiz without watching the video. So you can just listen to the audio. So maybe you can do the lesson when you are on the train, or driving to work, or working out at the gym, or walking to class. So you can do the first lesson just by listening, and you don't actually have to watch the video, although it does help to watch the video also.
Also, every day you will have the little podcast from me, the daily personal podcast, and you can listen to that, so you get bonus listing materials. And for some lessons I will have a recommended study list, so I will offer some links of other materials that you can listen to if you want extra study practice.
So in this course, I'm not your teacher, I'm actually your coach. I'm your listening and speaking coach, and I want to help you improve your listening speed and your speaking speed, and also your accuracy and your pronunciation.
So this course should be a lot of fun. I look forward to hearing from you in your homework assignments. I look forward to getting to know more about you, and we can communicate by email. So all the students in the class have my email, and if you send me an email I usually will respond every day.
The homework, though, takes longer to grade, so sometimes the homework will take two or three days before you get it back. So once you do your homework, especially if you do your homework early, your audio recording, I won't respond until it's time for me to grade them on my calendar. So I have a special day on my calendar that I grade the audio assignments because I'm really busy. I'm an English teacher at University, I have other classes, so I have to grade those assignments on a special day.
But if you write to me, I will get back to you within one day. So you can write and ask me a question, you can write and just say hello, you can write and share something about your life, you can do that via email.
And that's it. This is your first daily podcast, your daily private podcast. This is only for students in the course.
Thank you so much for signing up for the course. I am very excited to be your coach to help you train and improve your English listening and speaking.
And that's it. Thanks, everybody, and I'll be back tomorrow with the next daily private podcast. And tomorrow I think I'm going to talk about four different ways we use the word do in English.
Goodbye, everybody. Talk to you tomorrow.
